Microwave Oven Experiment #1 - Meringues

I love meringues. These fluffy sweet things, crispy on the outside, marshmallow-like inside...

But oi, they are a pain to make!
Have you seen a basic meringue recipe? "After baking....leave it in a blow oven for 2 hours."

2 hours? Erm, not for me. I have to do something about that long wait.

Well, guess what? I made a batch today!

Firstly, I did away with the hand-breaking ritual of beating the egg whites till fluffy. Secondly, I had them baked in under 3 minutes.

Taste? They are just as crispy and light as any that came out of a blow oven after 2 hours!

This is what I call instant gratification.

With the second batch, I increased the cooking time to see what would happen.

It is not too badly burnt, the brown bits are nice and chewy.
